Class A motorhomes are considered the most luxurious of the motorized RVs, offering perks such as a larger living space, more storage (the most of any class), a bigger kitchen, and more room for guests. What differentiates the diesel pusher from its gas-powered cousin? The power.
Class A Diesels have better torque, which makes climbing hills easier and towing simpler—a benefit when you’re travelling and camping in mountainous regions. Diesel engines can also go longer between maintenance checks and have greater overall longevity than similar gas varieties.
Class A RVs are prized for their livability, often feeling like a small, mobile apartment. They are entirely self-contained, offering passengers the option of eating, napping, or using the washroom without having to stop. They also have larger holding tanks than other classes and provide a smoother ride. The panoramic windshield adds to the driving pleasure, allowing a clear, sweeping view of the road. Some of the challenges of Class A RVs include maneuverability, cost, and fewer miles per gallon when you’re on the road.
These are the Top 5 Class A diesel pushers that RV buyers have inquired about most with our Dealers and Private Sellers:

You can have all your favorite clothes, the food you like, medication, and toiletries you always use. You don’t have to unpack & pack all the time. It is the best way to travel.
– Roger, Texas
2011 Tiffin Phaeton 40QTH: I love this Coach! I call it our one bedroom condo on wheels with ever changing views. The quality is very nice and the kitchen with the pull out counter make it a dream to cook in. Love the king bed with windows for fresh night air. The two bathroom sinks for hi/hers are perfect. It floats down the road and I sit in the passenger recliner reading a book, just like sitting in your living room.Lots of engine to get us over the passes with a jeep tow behind. Quality/comfort equals easy living!

Thirteen different floor plans and lengths ranging from 37′ – 43′ offer plenty of variety, along with a Freightliner or Spartan chassis to choose from. Here’s what actual owners are saying about their Newmar Dutch Star at our partner site RVInsider.com:
2017 Newmar Dutch Star 3724: We are essentially full-time RVers, and this is our first coach. We are continually impressed with not only the quality of the coach, but also the many safety, comfort, and convenience features that have been designed into the vehicle. No accidents. Professionally maintained. An excellent value.
– Richard, Arizona
2004 Newmar Dutch Star 3813: I purchased this RV about 3 years ago and have taken 3 cross country trips with it. It handles very well, has good power on the road even when pulling a 24′ trailer with a small car and a motorcycle in it. The coach is well appointed inside and out to make travel and living very comfortable. The slides are automatic at the push of a button. The large awning is electric with a wind sensor so you don’t have to worry about leaving it out when you leave the coach. One of the best features of this coach is the king size bed that was special ordered from the factory. Very nice and comfy feature. …All the comforts of home away from home. I know of no problems with the coach and would be comfortable selling it to a family member or friend.
– Don, Arizona

Some features available include: washer/dryer, fridge with water and ice in the door, induction stovetop and convection microwave. Fleetwood’s diesel pushers are built on their exclusive Fleetwood Freedom Bridge® chassis. Here’s what some actual Fleetwood Discovery owners are saying about their rig on our partner site, RVInsider.com:
2015 Fleetwood Discovery 40G: This is a great “family” RV. Plenty of space inside and underneath. It sleeps 8 comfortably. It even has two bunks for the kids with built in DVD player. No kids have to fight on what to watch. The Discovery is well made and high quality. The finishes are top notch. The residential refrigerator is big and makes plenty of ice. This RV comes with 3 air conditioners and can be used on 50 amp service. There are 4 tv’s (one is exterior), with an in motion satellite dish on top. This is very useful on drives for kids or even your favorite sporting event. This is a comfortable ride and 380hp engine. Can tow up to 10,000 lbs.
– Michelle, California
2019 Fleetwood Discovery 38N: Just picked one up, little used 12K on it. The craftmanship is top of the line for the price. The floor layout in the 38N is perfect for grand parents with Grandkids. Bunks are out of the way and easy to cover up. The power, and technicals are 1st class… I added my own Cradlepoint LTE/WIFI box so I can manage this remotely. I would recommend this coach for intermediate RV’ers and also the pro’s. I am going to replace the TV in the kitchen for a 50″ because I love a BIG TV. Enjoy!!!!
– Marty, Florida
Winnebago has been around since 1958—its name is one of the most recognized and is synonymous with the RV industry. The company has produced vehicles in a variety of classes during its long history, including motorhomes, travel trailers, fifth wheels and boats.
Designed for luxury travel and entertaining, the Journey offers 3 floor plans. Built on a Freightliner Maxum II XCM chassis and offering features like glide couches, multiple slideouts, audio/visual entertainment, a large, open living area, ample storage space, and stylish refinements, the Journey has a lot to offer. We took a look at what actual Journey owners think of their RV on our partner site, RVInsider.com:
2017 Winnebago Journey 40J: I found this RV easy to learn to drive. Have never driven anything this large, but after a four hour lesson and then a few hour of practice time in an empty parking lot, I was good to go. We made two 6000 mile trips and one 4000 mile trip this past year. Comfortable captains chairs for driving an electronic package. Bed has sleep number technology for both sides in master bedroom and sleeps four.
– Dave, Florida
2013 Winnebago Journey 36M: Bought this used about 6 months ago. Been out about 6 times, probably spent 5 weeks in it so far in total and driving about 2000 miles some back roads. Getting 9.5 MPG. Very comfortable to drive, just finished Naples to ATL 630 miles in one day. Much better than doing it in a car. I think the coach is a good value. It is built well and I think the Chassis is a good quality chassis. The house is solidly built. They tried hard to put in quality appliances and features. The kitchen is very workable and the residential fridge is an amazing convenience. There is no pantry but there is plenty of storage within easy reach to serve as a pantry. The hood vent actually exhausted the air not just blow it back out the top. The washer and dryer work well and we find them very convenient. The washer is very quiet and uses very little water, but it is not on the inverter. The full wall slide really opens up the coach bay making the hall at the bath nice and roomy. The Maxum chassis provides a basement that gives this coach the storage of a regular 40 but with better access. Storage inside is equally impressive It also has a true 10000 lb towing capacity… (see the rest of this review and others on RVInsider.com)

To see what actual owners think of their Palazzo, we checked out consumer reviews at our partner site RVInsider.com:
2016 Thor Motor Coach Palazzo 36.1: 1st RV ever owned. Driving is a pleasure. Towing my 2018 Silverado 1500 is a breeze. Was getting 11.5mph towing Rx350 on tow dolly but now getting 10.2 towing my truck. Haven’t had any major issues. 13750 miles on it. Only complaint is access to rear black tank.
– Rick, Texas
2015 Thor Motor Coach 33.2: We bought our Palazzo 33.2 new from our local dealer in exchange for a Fleetwood Fiesta. After the Fiesta, the Palazzo is a dream. We love the floor plan and amenities. Like all mobile homes, they are now produced to be lighter and cheaper while offering amenities people demand. We have been extremely happy with ours. Any issues we had (heater and fridge) are items produced by other companies and we do not hold Thor responsible for the minor issues we experienced. We lived in it for 2 years when my husband took contracts, returning home for short periods in-between 6month periods. We are now going to full time in it, and are selling our house to do so. Hope that tells you how satisfied we were with ours.
