Used RV Buying Tips
Save Money / Get More RV
Buying a used RV gives you the opportunity to save money, and/or get an RV with more of the features you want at a more affordable price than buying new.
Decide What You Need
If you've decided to buy a used RV, you may find yourself a bit overwhelmed by the choices available. While there are many good new and used rv deals around, you'll need to do some research so you can be comfortable you are making the right choice.
Carefully Examine the Unit
When shopping for used RVs including tent trailers, campers, and 5th wheels it is advisable to carefully inspect the unit, both inside and out (and of course under the hood in the case of used motorhomes and vans). Both structural and mechanical details should be examined, from the roof to the tires.
You'll want to make sure appliances and other RV components are in good working order so you are not faced with costly repairs right away. If you are not sure what to look for have it examined by someone with more expertise. Take it out for a test drive to make sure you will be happy with its performance.
Don't Rush Into It
For first time buyers, families, or anyone on a budget, buying a used RV makes a lot of sense. You'll get more features and options for your money if you choose carefully. Give yourself lots of time and do a little bit of research. Think about what type of RV you want, and shop around. If you wait until the last minute you may not have the time to find the best deals.
Used RVs that have been properly cared for can provide years of enjoyment. And if you in turn look after yours well, it will hold a good resale value if you decide to sell or trade it later.
Get Familiar
Like other things, as you become more familiar with the RV marketplace, you will get better at asking questions of sellers, and the more confident your decision making becomes. By reviewing many models both online and in person you will gain a better understanding of pricing, common features, building materials, depreciation, etc.
