The week between Christmas and New Year’s is a busy travel time for RV families. As soon as school’s out, many families pack into their RVs and take off for winter fun. A few tips from experienced RV travelers can help make your holiday vacation merry and bright whether you’re going to grandmother’s house, packing skis and sleds for fun in the snow, or heading to Florida to visit a certain mouse.

Exit by exit travel guides can enliven long hours on the road. These guidesĀ provide a snapshot of the cities and towns you’ll be passing during your trip. They’re a handy way to locate interesting local attractions, gas stations, RV campgrounds, local eateries, shopping outlets, repair services, hospitals and more. Look online for Drive Alaska, Drive I-95, Drive I-75 and Drive guides for other popular vacation routes.

Call ahead for RV campsite reservations along your route and at your destination. RV campgrounds near popular attractions fill up quickly. If there’s no room at the inn, overnight RV parking is allowed at many Wal-Marts, Flying J and Travel America truck stops. Truck stops may also offer fresh water and sewage dumps.

Watch your speed. State troopers are particularly vigilant about speeders during the holidays. Relax and slow down. You’re on vacation!

Special holiday treat. If you’re passing by Bozeman, Montana, take the I-90 Main Street exit and check into or at least drive through Sunrise Campground. Owners Marty and Maryjo Stanek decorate with thousands of lights and special holiday displays. Happy holidays!
