RV Vacations in Denali National Park
Posted by Nancy on May 24, 2010Now is the time to begin booking your vacation in Denali, Alaska. Touted as one of the must-sees of Alaska, this national park is full of wildlife with grizzlies, wolves, caribou and moose just to name a few of the majestic beasts that roam this pristine wilderness.
The park allows limited amounts of visitors at a time, so you definitely need to start looking into things now. The park website recommends booking at least six months prior to your anticipated visit.
Bear in mind as you make your plans that only certain campgrounds in Denali cater to large RV’s. Make sure your reservations are for an appropriate site that is suitable for your RV.
Another point to be aware of is that you can’t bring any vehicles deep into the interior of the park. After settling into one the lovely campgrounds, you will need to rely on the park’s own “green bus” services to bring you deeper in. The park offers daily shuttles that go over 90 miles into the park over mostly-gravel road. You will be traveling through boreal forests and sub-arctic tundra with rolling mountainsides and sheer cliffs, providing scenic views and excellent wildlife viewing areas. There are numerous other options as well which will allow you to park your RV at one of the sites and then set out on foot or bike for the interior of the park.
While you are planning your trip, it wouldn’t hurt to start praying that you get a good view of the beautiful Mt. McKinley, which is frequently covered by clouds.
