If you’re looking for signs of RV sales trends pointing downward, you won’t find any right now. The market has been heating up for years, and recent sales data shows historic levels of consumer demand. Buyers and sellers alike are enjoying it!
Record High Sales Numbers for RVs
RV Pro reports that used trailers and motorhomes hit impressive benchmarks in recent months. Volume keeps spiking and the consensus is that the used RV market has better inventory than usual. April sales data had travel trailers averaging better than ever before at $12,000, with motorhomes averaging more than $40,000.
New models continue to sell well, of course. The New York Post recently reported that Winnebago sales have been exceeding already optimistic expectations (up 3.1% YTD). Thor Industries, makers of the Airstream and many other name brands, have been selling even more (up 9.1% YTD).
The better the RV sales trends, the better life is for both dealers and the general public. As owners sell their current RVs to upgrade, the used market gets a boon of wonderful models for resale.
Ultimately, this means RV dealers are selling to eager customers. For buyers, there are many quality used RVs for sale as well as the gorgeous new 2016 and 2017 models you can choose from as today’s hot market gets rewarded with improved features in new units plus a good supply of used RVs for the enjoyment of upgrading and / or first time RV buyers alike.
Why Are RV Sales So Hot?
The RV sales trends can partly be explained by the gradually improving economy. Just as importantly, a wider range of people are getting interested in the RV lifestyle. Millennials especially but people of all walks of life, all across the country, are interested in buying an RV.

It is nice that the RV industry is doing so well. However, as in times past this industry has a bad habit of lacking good quality control when the demand is high. This industry needs tighter quality control similar to auto manufacturers. When an RV goes to the dealer with missing parts, parts installed incorrectly, I see a problem with this. It should not be the Dealers responsbility to repair there screw ups! And this goes for every RV Manufacturer out there!
