In the latest RV travel trailer design trends, look towards aerodynamics plus the use of lighter weight components to lead the way both design innovations and functional attributes of next generation RVs. With tow vehicles becoming smaller and using less powerful engines, towable RVs must also evolve to cope with this fact. Lighter structural materials will be used during the design and manufacturing process, making trailers easier to pull while increasing gas mileage during towing.

Growth Through 2019

Overall growth in the travel trailer segment is expected to increase more than 12 percent through 2019. This growth will be due, in no small part, to the fuel efficiency that newer models provide.

Gone are the days of heavy metal box-sided trailers that were hooked to giant sized gas guzzling V-8 engines. And even though there may be a bit of nostalgia when remembering those lumbering beasts, especially with modern fuel prices being quite volatile, fuel efficiency still seems to trump everything else. Look for the newest trailers will be light and compact enough to be towed by smaller and midsized SUV’s.

However, what will not be changed is the luxury aspect or the general utility and user friendly-ness which travel trailers have become known for. Even though the units may be lighter in weight and have more rounded, sloping, aerodynamic sides, they will still be comfortable to live in, and both seating and sleeping arrangements will be as good as ever.
