Open Range RV’s innovative 3X thermal barrier wall system earned the young company’s new 3X Fifth Wheel the Best of Show for 2014 distinction from RV Pro. Named for the revolutionary wall system it introduces, the 3X Fifth Wheel has been designated Open Range’s new flagship RV.
Representing a significant advancement in RV technology, Open Range’s 3X thermal barrier wall system features a 3-inch thick laminated sidewall with a 3/4-inch thick thermal barrier that offers “50% more insulation than a 2-inch wall,” Open Range RV president Randy Graber said. The R-9 insulation in the sidewall and R-36 insulation in the roof and floor of the 3X create a formidable barrier against winter’s icy blasts and summer’s sweltering heat, making this impressive new fifth wheel cheaper to heat and air condition than competing models.
“Open Range’s story has always been more room and less weight,” Graber explained. “Apples to apples we weigh 1,000 to 1,500 pounds less than the competition.” But dropping weight hasn’t forced Open Range to sacrifice any of the upscale amenities 5th-wheel buyers are looking for. With a 100-inch wide body and opposing 7-foot tall, 42-inch deep slide-outs, the 2014 3X feels delightfully spacious. A 36-inch deep bed slide in the bedroom and flush floor, all linoleum galley slide enhance the model’s roominess. Wood trimmed windows, a mosaic tile backsplash, stainless steel appliances, residential lighting and Lauren Ashley furniture create an interior that is both inviting and luxurious. Open Range has designed the fifth wheel’s exterior with equal attention to detail. A triple-color paint scheme gives the 3X the depth and luster of a custom finish. Keyless entry, extra-wide 36-inch steps and an optional back-up camera are just a few of the model’s safety features. For owners’ comfort, the 3X also comes equipped with a Carefree metal-wrapped awning with built-in LED lighting.
