Cash-Saving Tips for Fueling Your RV

Posted by Claire on May 06, 2011

Ouch! With gas topping $4 a gallon and still going up, RV owners are keeping a keen eye out for service stations with the cheapest gas prices. Now that some stations are starting to adjust pump prices daily, it can be tough to keep track of the best deals. Fortunately, there are online sites and mobile apps available to help RV travelers pinpoint good gas deals when they’re on the road. A couple of national gas providers have also begun offering loyalty discounts for RV drivers to help ease the pain at the pump.

Here’s a round-up of places to look for good RV gas deals:

> If you already use GasBuddy.com to find the best local deals on gas, you’ll want to download their mobile app to use while RVing. Fuel Finder is another popular mobile app for locating fuel deals when you’re on the road.

> Consider getting a credit card that offers a rebate on gas purchases. Depending on the card, you could recoup 3% to 5% of your total gas costs. Also, watch for promotional incentives that can increase your savings. CreditCard.org provides information and rate/feature comparisons on credit cards with gas incentives.

> Stock up on Walmart gift cards. When you use them to pay for fuel, you get a 3 cents per gallon discount at the pump.

> Flying J has introduced a rewards program for RVers that provides a 2 cents per gallon (or more) discount on fuel purchased at any of their service centers nationwide.

RV Dealers Use Analytics to Target Online Marketing Campaigns

Posted by Shawn Friesen | Vice President of RVT.com on Feb 23, 2011

U.S. businesses spent more than $11 billion on online advertising last year and that number is expected to increase annually as the American marketplace continues to move online. More than 80% of shoppers already begin their search for a vehicle online, according to J. D. Power & Associates. Increasingly, RV dealers are focusing marketing campaigns online to capitalize on that enormous sales potential. It’s a not-so-simple matter of putting your product where the buyers are. Today, that means on the Internet and, increasingly, on social media sites, particularly Facebook.

There is more to successful Internet marketing than just plopping your RV inventory on a website. This is where the “not-so-simple” aspect comes into play. Creating an online marketing campaign that earns a respectable return on investment requires…continue to Full Article.

Best Practices for Managing RV Dealership Inventory

Posted by Shawn Friesen | Vice President of RVT.com on Feb 07, 2011

Inventory management is a critical factor in the success and profitability of RV dealerships.  RV dealers must divide their energies between two main inventory problems:

  1. Selling new RV stock delivered by the manufacturer.
  2. Moving used RVs acquired as trade-ins.

With a significant amount of capital invested in inventory, every RV sitting in a dealership showroom or out on the lot is a drain on the dealer’s profitability. For decades, the cost of maintaining a considerable onsite inventory has been considered the price of doing business; but the acceptance of the Internet as a purchasing tool coupled with changing consumer habits driven by social media is turning out to be a game-changer.

Online classified ad sites are expanding RV dealership markets nationwide and driving targeted volume traffic directly to dealership websites…Continue to Full Article.

Be Prepared for Your RV Journey

Posted by Nancy on Feb 02, 2011

Using an RV for vacations and holiday travel certainly has a number of benefits over other forms of travel, but you can’t blindly dive into a long trip without some preparation. Your RV may have everything you need for cooking, entertainment and shelter, but in the event of an accident or emergency you need to be prepared with a first aid/safety kit designed for RV travel.

An RV first aid kit should have all of the necessities that you would find in a first aid kit for your home. Be sure to have a variety of sterile bandages, tape, scissors, disinfectant, pain killers and other necessary medications for specific members of the family and a properly functioning flashlight. This will likely be enough if the destination of your RV trip is a friends or family members home, but if you are going on and extended camping trip you might want to include a wider variety of personal safety items that could be of benefit in the great outdoors.

If you’re completely uncomfortable with the prospect of assembling your own first aid kit, there are a number of companies that offer already assembled kits that can adequately do the job. A fully functional RV first aid kit is pretty simple to put together though, and if you are doing it on your own you can include items specific to your family needs that might not be found in already assembled kits. Remember that an emergency can occur at any time, even while you are cruising down the road in your dream vehicle, so it’s important to make every effort to be prepared.

Use Video Power to Boost RV Dealership Sales

Posted by Shawn Friesen | Vice President of RVT.com on Jan 05, 2011

Pictures are like Velcro, they stick in the mind long after words are forgotten. Video takes visual memory to the ultimate level, integrating two of our most prominent senses – sight and sound – to deliver messages with staying power. According to national research conducted by the Wharton School of Business, consumers are 72% more likely to purchase an online product when video is used.

Think about it. Which do you remember best: a blog you read yesterday or the funny cat video you saw on YouTube last week? It may be embarrassing to admit…Continue to Full Article
