New Use for Park Model RVs as Caregiving Cottages

Posted by on May 17, 2010

With folks over 80 being the fastest growing population segment, the reality is that more families will be caring for an elderly parent or relative in the near future. Many seniors prefer staying at home or living with a family member to moving into a nursing home, but most homes are not designed to accommodate people with mobility problems and chronic health issues. A savvy Virginia design firm, N2Care, has come up with a unique solution that many families are finding not only practical but affordable. They are customizing park model RVs into caretaking cottages.

The 12 x 24-foot RV park models are designed to house people with disabilities and can be tied into a home’s security and communication systems to allow 24-hour real time remote computer monitoring to ensure gram or gramp’s safety. The park model RVs comply with local zoning ordinances and are designed to tie into a home’s water, electric and sewer service. Units can be leased short or long-term and be conveniently located on a homeowner’s property.

The new Med-Cottage park model RVs are an innovative way to allow aging grandparents their own living space and independence for as long as possible. The new senior living arrangement not only keeps grandparents close so they can enjoy family activities, but also ensures that when your parents’ need help, you’re there to give it.
