There’s always plenty to learn when you begin a new adventure, and your first venture into RV life is no exception. Fortunately, folks buying their first RV will find experienced RV travelers welcoming and eager to share their knowledge. Here are some of the best tips we’ve heard from RV veterans:
> Buy your RV online. Online RV classified ad sites offer great RV selection and dealing direct with RV owners cuts out middleman markups.
> Make a maintenance checklist. Make a checklist of things to do before and after each RV trip to ensure that you don’t forget any maintenance procedures while you’re learning.
> Keep fridge and pantry stocked. Keep non-perishable staples onboard all season so you’re ready for spur-of-the-moment getaways. Remember to use food before its expiration date.
> Keep clothing, gear onboard. Keep a set of toiletries, toothbrushes, clothing, games, leisure gear, pet supplies, etc. onboard so all you have to do is hop in your RV and take off.
> Take care of your black water tank. If your RV doesn’t have a black water tank sprayer, dump plenty of water down the toilet to clean it out. Add recommended chemicals regularly to ensure that tank material biodegrades properly. Packets are the fastest and easiest to use and require the least storage space; just toss one down the toilet with a gallon of water. Use RV toilet paper; it biodegrades faster.

RV-schooling is the latest innovation in homeschooling. Instead of using books around the kitchen table to teach their children, more homeschooling families are buying RVs and taking their kids on the road for a more active, hands-on approach to education. Devotees say RV-schooling lets them bring educational lessons to life. Children don’t just read about the Civil War; the family drives their RV to Gettysburg to walk the battlefield. While studying nutrition, RV families travel to an organic farm to spend a few days working beside the farmer. A lesson in paleontology includes an RV trip to hunt fossils. The possibilities are endless and not limited to homeschoolers. RV families can augment their children’s education with hands-on learning during summer vacation and weekend trips.
Using a variety of methods to teach educational subject matter is more effective than the reading and writing traditional at U.S. schools, educators say. Different children learn in different ways. Combining reading and writing with informal family discussion and hands-on learning provides children with more opportunities to understand and assimilate knowledge. Providing children with the opportunity to actually see what they are learning about or get their hands dirty and do something for themselves is a far more effective teaching method than merely reading about a subject. Combining mental and physical effort creates stronger, more lasting mental associations when learning. Whether you homeschool your children or take RV trips to supplement classroom learning, parents can use RV-schooling to expand their children’s educational horizons and bring knowledge alive!

One more great reason to buy an RV online: RV camping is good for your children’s health. Camping gets your children away from the video games and TV, the texting and Facebook updates and all the very sedentary and solitary pursuits that seem to appeal to children and teens today. RV camping substitutes the beauty of the natural world for the static backgrounds of video games. Camping switches out virtual Facebook friends with new flesh and blood friends eager to join in a hunt for caterpillars or a hike to the creek. Camping replaces those hiphop lyrics streaming from your kid’s iPod with birds singing, wind rustling through the trees, a brook babbling over the rocks and crickets chirping.
They say getting back to nature is good for the soul, but scientists are finding that it’s also good for the mind and body. According to the National Wildlife Federation, which last weekend hosted its annual Great American Backyard Campout to encourage families to spend time outdoors, studies prove that camping offers multiple benefits for children.
> Children who camp learn to rely on their imaginations, boosting their creativity.
> Camping kids develop longer attention spans so they do better in school.
> Children who spend time outdoors are less likely to be nearsighted.
> Camping youngsters use their muscles more frequently which makes them stronger.
> Camping kids live an average 3 years longer than their sedentary friends.
Change your life. Change your children’s lives. Buy an RV online today!

It’s a scene that will play out at campgrounds across America this weekend.
Family A arrives. Mom, dad and kids extricate themselves from car crammed with camping gear. They’re tired, hungry and crabby from a long ride in a cramped car where every niche is filled with gear. Dad whips the team into action and the never-ending portage of gear from car to campsite begins.
Family B arrives. Mom, dad and kids open the door of their RV. Dad hits the auto-leveling button. Mom passes out sandwiches and lemonade prepared in the kitchen. The family watches the activity next door while they relax over lunch.
Meanwhile, Family A struggles to erect their tent. Dad’s frustration starts to show and a few harsh words are heard. Mom is hunched over the air pump blowing up air mattresses. The kids are starting to whine. Mom takes time out to walk the youngest down the road to the bathrooms. Dad sets out in search of the water pump.
Family B finishes their meal. Dad unloads the bikes from their RV and they’re off in search of adventure.
Family A has returned to their campsite. The kids are still whining. Dad is crouched over trying to fit the air mattresses and sleeping bags into the tent. Mom is rooting through boxes and coolers hunting for sandwich fixings and lemonade mix.
Which scenario would you rather be living? RV camping lets you enjoy every minute of your weekend getaway or vacation. Isn’t it time you bought an RV?
