A year ago watching the numbers whirl by on the gas pump while you filled up your RV was enough to give a dedicated traveler heart failure. Nationwide, gas prices hovered at just over $4 per gallon all through last summer’s peak vacation travel time. The high pump prices forced many RVers to search out recreational activities close to home. September finally saw the start of a long, slow drop back to normalcy. By the end of December, gas prices had fallen to a very reasonable $1.53 per gallon.
The climb to traditionally higher summer pump prices has been slow this spring. Today’s pump price of $2.24 per gallon is just a little more than half the big bucks we were shelling out this time last year. While gas prices may still rise a bit as we enter the summer drive season, industry analysts are predicting that gas prices overall will remain considerably cheaper than last summer and are likely to stay well under $3 per gallon, most likely peaking around $2.50 a gallon.
That’s great news for RVers who are anxious to get back out on the road. In fact, low gas prices, great values on RVs offered for sale online, and concern about the economy that has everyone paying more attention to their family budget is expected to swell the ranks of the RV nation considerably this summer. RV industry experts are predicting a steady increase in RV sales as more people turn to RVing as a cheap, fun, family-friendly vacation travel choice. RV campgrounds and resorts are already reporting high reservation rates for this summer. With gas back to affordable and RV prices at better than reasonable, it’s time to get back on the road and go RVing!
